Hexagram turns into a hexagram killing back at you.

There are only 8 kinds of hexagrams that can kill back at the 1st hexagram:

Chen and Duay = metal

Zen and Shun = wood

Gen and Quen = soil

Kan = water

Li = fire

A hexagram can turn into a hexagram which kills back at itself.  It could also turn into a hexagram burying back at itself.  Let's see a few examples:

First, [Shun] turns into [Kan].

            Wood Water
              O - -
              - -
             - - - -
              O - -
              - -
             - - - -

The above is a hexagram turning into a hexagram which produces itself back.   ( [Shun] is wood, and [Kan] is water. )  The above is a lucky sign for any case.

Second, [Zen] turns into [Chen].

           Wood Metal
             X -
             X -
             - -
             X -
             X -
             - -

The above shows a hexagram turning into a hexagram which kills itself back.  (wood turns into metal)  This is a bad luck sign for any case.  Any case!

Third, [Duay] turns into [Zen].

            Metal Wood
             - - - -
              O - -
              - -
             - - - -
              O - -
              - -

The above is a hexagram killing at the second hexagram.  (metal turns into wood)   This is not a dangerous sign nor a good sign.

The guy who threw the coins refused to tell Wild Crane at first what his question was.   He got [Shun] and [Chen].

           Wood Metal
             - -
             - -
             X -
             - -
             - -
             X -

Wild Crane asked, "What is the question. I need to know at least that."   "It's about my uncle. Will he be successful in his career?", the man replied.  Wild Crane said, "It's better to have your uncle ask the question for himself.  But luckily, this hexagram is easy to understand.  Shun (wood) becomes Chen (metal) killing back at itself.  Forget about success.  Your uncle won't even live long."

Result: In month w, his uncle was fired by the firm and was dead in July.

A slave asked about her master's illness. She got [Li] and [Kan].

Year Month Date Hour Empty Dates

            Fire Water
             O - -
             X -
             O - -
             O - -
             X -
             O - -

If more than 4 lines move in your first toss, it's an unlucky sign.  Now Li fire turned into Kan water which killed itself back.  Without even looking at the stars and the elements, Wild Crane concluded that the master is safe in the summer but will surely die when the weather gets a little colder.

Result: The master died in the month of yo, on the day of h.

A man asked if the value of his house will go up.  He got [Kan] and [Quen].

Year Month Date Hour Empty Dates

            Water Soil
             - - - -

             - - - -
              O - -
             - - - -

The hexagram is being killed back.  The house value is a small matter.  You must beware of danger.

Result: The man was killed in month e for he has sunken with a boat.  The ancient saints said that a serious, dead or alive kind of sign will emerge only when one asks about life safety.  But God showed a serious sign when this man asked about little things.

One of my students asked me, "What if the first hexagram is killing the second hexagram?  Is this good or bad?"  The answer is:  I don't know.   Ancient saints did not mention about what happens if the 1st hexagram kills the 2nd hexagram.  Therefore if your 1st hexagram is killing your 2nd hexagram, just toss the coins again to get a clearer sign.
